How often have we said, "It seems like only yesterday....". As I think about memories from as far back as a child, it seems, the more vivid the memory, the more it seems like it happened very recent. I can't remember some things from just weeks ago but go back to my youth, teenage and 20's and I can remember the smallest little details of events that had occurred. Because they seem so fresh in my memory, I feel as though it wasn't long ago when they happened. Sometimes it makes you feel old, but what I've come to realize is that because they are so sharp in my memory, time seems as though it has gone by so fast, just a blur.

Only Yesterday (2004)
written by James Buckley

And it seems like only yesterday when we were young and running free
And now the days are more than numbers, with each one cast into the sea
Where would we be

All the places we would go to with our friends the ones we've loved
And all the trouble that we'd get into was really only half the fun
Where has it gone..... Where has it gone

And it doesn't matter how we got to where we are
Ohhhhh It was only yesterday

With vivid pictures in our memories of how the way things used to be
We can't help thinking of what would have happened had things gone quite differently
Where has it gone..... Where has it gone

And it doesn't matter how we got to where we are
Ohhhhh It was only yesterday

Ya know it's hard to forget about things that we have done
So I guess we'll keep asking ourselves, where....tell me where has it gone
And what's the meaning of a lifetime, where does it end, where does it start
As we thank God for the memories that have been branded in our hearts

And our friends have never left us as we take this lifelong flight
Collecting memories of the good days, time is just a flash of light
Where has it gone..... Where has it gone

And it doesn't matter how we got to where we are
Ohhhhh It was only yesterday
