While at a beach in New Jersey in 2005, I was standing at the shoreline at dusk one evening when some kids surfing noticed someone way out in the water. As the sun was setting, it was getting harder to see this person and the kids on their boards even tried to get out to her but the waves were making it difficult for them to get there. I called 911 and soon rescue crews from north and south of the location descended upon her. The picked her up and brought her in, to cheers from onlookers. Much to my surprise, I heard her tell the rescue people that she didn't want to come in and they told her of the dangers of being so far out to see at night by yourself without a floatation device. They wrapped her in a towel and she walked backed down to the beach and for all we know may have went back into the water. I just felt that she must have been a lonely young person and didn't care to be at risk. She just wanted to be left alone.

Walking on the beach in a
new jersey town one summer as the night fell to the sea

And the surfer boys still at it trying to catch the last few waves
down in front of me

And suddenly one surfer boy, pointing in the distance,
there was something there

A girl it seemed had drifted out into the deeper water where
no one would dare

Is there someone who could save the day
Is there anyone to listen to her story and the reason why she felt this way

Krisannah
Although we may not understand,
don’t turn away the love that you might find

And the boys they tried to get to her
but the tide just kept on pushing them back to the shore

And the rescue teams were on their way to save Krisannah,
bring her back, there’s so much more

They brought her back into the sand and the people cheered,
but Krisannah’s story never told

That what she really wanted was some feeling of belonging
with her heart and soul

No one knew she really wanted to
be back in the water all alone and free

They told her there was danger to be
so far out with darkness like a blanket on the sea

No family or any friends around she turned
and walked back to the sand where she was found

And all the people turned away,
as this lost soul would walk away without a sound

Is there someone who could save the day
Is there anyone to listen to her story and the reason why she felt this way
