Many times as a kid, I loved to lay on a grassy hillside and gaze up at the puffy white clouds on a sunny day. It was fun to try and see if you could make something out of the different shapes the clouds would form. I don't know why, but one such shape had remained etched in my memory and in 1977 as I was developing my songwriting skills and looking for material to write about, the vision of the white horse that I had seen in my youth spawned the song, "Flight On A White Horse". I simply took that memory and built a story around it, proof that my childlike imagination was still with me and really has never left.

Flight On A White Horse (1977)
written by James Buckley

Staring at the clouds, the sun is piercing through
No one around for miles, no one can see this view
Different shapes of things are molded in the sky
And when the light shines through, I'm forced to shade my eyes

And then there is a burst of light, A flying horse with wings of white

I slowly rub my eyes, not sure of what I see
I think I’ve lost control, what’s come over me
I see him look my way and now he’s coming down
He lands right next to me and lifts me off the ground

And then there is a burst of light, And suddenly we start in flight

Flight on a white horse, Nothing can compare
Flight on a white horse, Soaring through the air

Looking down below, I see some friends of mine
They all seem quite amazed, blinded by the shine
He passes over them, he turns with such great ease
I wave goodbye to all, it’s time to catch a breeze

And then there is a burst of light, A gust of wind and out of sight

Flight on a white horse, Nothing can compare
Flight on a white horse, Soaring through the air
Flight on a white horse, take me far away
Flight on a white horse, I had a dream today
