While sitting around with the family one day, my niece, Olivia, nine years old, posed an interesting question. She said, "If a blind man can't see then what does he dream?". I thought about that a lot, did some research on the subject and found out through some studies that for the most part, those that were born blind had no "seeing" dreams although other sensory experiences were present. Those that had become blind later as a child or adult had some degree of "seeing" dreams.
I thought about how some of us sometimes are blind in other ways to life around us and lose the ability to dream and hope in many ways. This, I could relate to personally, and decided it was songworthy to write about. So I proceeded to write "Blind Man's Dream" and reveal my thoughts about keeping those hopes and dreams alive. For if they are not there, are we not blind in a way?

Blind Man's Dream (2004)
written by James Buckley

While living in darkness like a blind man’s dream
with my head buried deep in my hands
Just when it seemed like my world had been drained
and not knowing how much I could stand

As I gave up on hoping that truth would prevail
you came and you held me so tight
With my heart pounding hard as we kissed the first time
on that rainy November night

I prayed that our love could withstand all the stormy nights ahead
This is it, girl, this road is the only chance we have

We’ve got to hold on…hold on tight
As you and I go on this magical ride
Don’t let go … never look back
I just want to know
What does a blind man dream?

The walks that we’d take down the alley you know
were the best we could do for sometime
And I’ll never forget how I shook in your arms
as you held me as though you were mine

And the others who looked at us negatively
while living in their own shallow world
They tried and they tried to discourage our love
but you can’t stop fate’s mighty sword

I prayed that our love could withstand all the stormy nights ahead
This is it, girl, this road is the only chance we have

We’ve got to hold on…hold on tight
As you and I go on this magical ride
Don’t let go … never look back
I just want to know
What does a blind man dream?

And now I know what had happened was a miracle come true
To walk away from the life I had, just to be with you
It wasn’t easy, girl, getting to the place I had to be
I couldn’t walk to you, I had to run ya see
And if ever in my later years my memory fades away
Please reach out to me, hold me tight and let me hear you say

I love you
